He's Here, He's Here

Monday 2/23/09
Today Bertram arrived by plane at DFW.  I picked him up and we were instant best buds.  Not sure if it was 'cuz I let him out of his crate on the grass for the first time in 2 and half hours or because it was love at first site.  I prefer to think the latter.  As I am new to setting this blog stuff up, it may take me awhile to figure out how to upload pictures and my camera battery is dead.

Bertram had a little accident on the kitchen floor, not his fault, but mine.  I took my eyes off him for a millisecond, my bad.  So far he is very sweet, mega curious and voraciously hungry all the time.  This potty training thing may take awhile.  The book says when he starts sniffing, take him out.  He sniffs all the time.  We also go out when he wakes up, plays, eats and/or drinks.  So far only one successful outside performance in 3, but we're working on it.

Today is Bertram's 8 week birthday.  He was born on December 29, 2008.  His fur is soooo soft.  I haven't snuggled a puppy in too long.  He feels like a bunny.

God what a night.  It was like having a newborn.  He cried quite a bit when we went to bed, but settled down and slept in about 20 min.s.  It was all I could do not to jump up and bring him to bed with me.  I felt like the wicked witch of the west just torturing the poor baby.  He woke up 2 times by 530am.  I got him up and took him outside each time.   He is sooo good, almost always tinkles when we go out.

I never knew a dog taking a crap could bring me such joy, but this morning after all furred fiends ate breakfast, I noticed Bertie sniffing around the back door.  I asked if he needed to go OUTSIDE and he whined.  As soon as I opened the door, he bounced right out into the yard and made a pile.  I was ecstatic.

Finally after about 2 pathetic hours of experimenting, got some pictures of the boy up.  As you probably noticed, lighting variance can make him look like a completely different dog.  Per websites I have been researching, he should start to get his adult (and hopefully solid charcoal) coat at around 8 or 10 months of age.  He has a vet appointment tomorrow, I'll ask him about it as well.

Gary, I did change some of the settings to hopefully make it easier to read.
